Hurricane Season Stress Management:  Understand Stress and Monitor Stressors during a Hurricane! By, Life Coach- Nafije Prishtina In Part 1 of this “Creating Mental Resilience” series, you learned about the importance of taking time to prepare mentally for the extra stress that comes during hurricane season. Part 2 will help you continue developing the mental toughness needed to manage Hurricane Stress!   First, let’s look at Good vs. Bad Stress. It is a recurring theme in my blogs, that not all stress is bad for you. According to mental health therapist John Stiteler, if you live in a hurricane place like Florida, increased stress at this time is normal and even healthy. Stiteler said “The increased level of stress is actually healthy because it produces the hormone cortisol which provides extra motivation and energy to prepare for emergency situations." The article continues, highlighting the point that there is a difference between appropriate levels of stres...

Creating Mental Resilience during Hurricane Season By, Life Coach- Nafije Prishtina   June 1st is the start of the 2021 Atlantic hurricane season. Recently the local news announced that The National Hurricane Center has released the list of names you can expect to hear from meteorologists. When it comes to hurricane preparation in Florida most individuals have learned to put the shutters on, learned the importance of gathering extra food and supplies but sometimes individuals don’t understand the importance in taking time to prepare mentally for the extra stress that comes during hurricane season. Yes, prepare for Hurricane Stress!   As a new resident of Florida I had to learn about hurricane preparation the hard way. After two years living in my dream destination on the Atlantic coast, purchasing our home only few miles from the coast, Florida got hit with Hurricane Irma, a Category 5. Prior to the hurricane we watched the news as they warned us to board up w...

Self-Management for a Successful Life - Part 2! In the first part of this blog, I shared how time management isn’t what you thought it is. In this blog, you will read some words of wisdom from God, who also wants you to use your time wisely plus ideas from the 4S system that maximize success using time/self-management techniques. We can all stop bullshiting about time management and start focusing on self-management. Make peace with the reality about time, by recognizing and accepting that we can’t really control or manage time, no one can add any minutes to the clock or go back in time to retrieve lost time.   Live in a real-time truth and remember that our time is limited and there’s no way to know how much time we have until our last breath. Each day we all have the same 24 hours, no matter where we live or what pandemic is raging. We are free and have a choice to determine how we spend the time we have. We can choose to live our life (unconsciously) as if we are ...

Resigning and Resolving in the time of Covid-19

Resigning and Resolving in the time of Covid-19 In the midst of chaos, there is also opportunity. Sun Tsu Written by, Kathy Shabotynskyj & Nafije Prishtina This week, one of my clients needed a letter of resignation.  Yes, even during the pandemic, people leave their employers. It is a recommended practice to leave a job properly by submitting a letter of resignation.  My client was afraid to tell the company he was departing. His employer is an air conditioning company and it is the middle of summer. With a short note of thanks and a date of departure spelled out in the letter, my client was prepared to leave on good terms. The blow-up he anticipated never materialized. The letter of resignation helped everyone accept the departure cordially. Helping my client with his resignation got me thinking about the bigger concept of resignation.  Turning to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) I found another definition of resignation: the quality of ...
