Self-Management for a Successful Life-Part 2!

Self-Management for a Successful Life - Part 2!

In the first part of this blog, I shared how time management isn’t what you thought it is. In this blog, you will read some words of wisdom from God, who also wants you to use your time wisely plus ideas from the 4S system that maximize success using time/self-management techniques.

We can all stop bullshiting about time management and start focusing on self-management. Make peace with the reality about time, by recognizing and accepting that we can’t really control or manage time, no one can add any minutes to the clock or go back in time to retrieve lost time.  Live in a real-time truth and remember that our time is limited and there’s no way to know how much time we have until our last breath.

Each day we all have the same 24 hours, no matter where we live or what pandemic is raging. We are free and have a choice to determine how we spend the time we have. We can choose to live our life (unconsciously) as if we are never going to die, or, we can choose to make the most of ourselves; to consciously use time well in the present.

I consider myself lucky to have learned this truth about time and life. My father said that time is a gift from God; my father was a man of faith and believed in the word of God. The time we have on earth is limited and we should make the most out of ourselves everyday while we are alive because, just like we are born, we will die. My father encouraged me to sleep moderately, eat moderately, work and play moderately and always be conscious of myself and God.

As a child, at times I felt annoyed when my father talked about death and that time was a tool for us to use well, but as I grew up, I started becoming very protective of my time. As a matter of fact, I printed out the verse from the Quran, called Time and framed it so I can see it every day. In Chapter 103 verses 1-3 God reminds us that,

1. By Time.

2. The human being is in loss.

3. Except those who believe, and do good works, and encourage truth, and recommend patience.

That’s how I realized “the truth” that for me to be able to function properly in life and not waste my precious time, I must take full charge of myself and live responsibly. Every day I work to make the most of my talents, self-manage, do good works, live in truth with patience, and encourage others to a practice of truth and patience. This is my truth and how I have brought success into my life. I'm a personal leader in my life and teach others personal leadership which includes time/self-management skills.

The truth is that few people want to think with the end in mind and live the truth, and instead continue blaming and misrepresenting their time. Earlier in my career, I felt like a “liar” when I introduced myself as a time management expert because there is no such thing as time-management. In recent years I started using both words in my title, Time/Self-management to emphasize my niche. It still doesn’t feel right to me, but I do it anyway, because people just don’t understand the “real” relationship between time and self-management.

Self-management skills are shown to promote emotional management and healthy behavior. The following Self-Management skills are emphasized in the (4S) Shining Stars Success System course.

·         goal defining

·         action planning

·         problem solving

·         decision making

·         time organizing

·      stress management

As we can see, we cannot really manage time, we can only choose how to use our clock time (present time) in regards to the psychological time (past, future time) by learning and using self-management skills. Let’s remember the above quote from Alan Lakeins  as his words contain great wisdom, those words call us to the ultimate truth that to live a productive, enjoyable life we need to master self-management, and master using our time well.  The quote above can also help us stay true to ourselves. Let’s stop lying about managing time and start managing ourselves, our thoughts, and our emotions and enjoy living each moment in the present “NOW.” Let’s be responsible, make progress towards our life goals by self-managing, learning, growing, and succeeding in life.

Next: Take a moment to reflect and ask yourself these questions daily:

·         How will I use my talents today?

·         Am I managing myself in relation to time?

·         What good works will I do today?

·         How do I structure myself to live at a higher level of productivity?
